Why Am I So Tired All the Time?
One of the most common things I hear from women is:
“I’m exhausted all the time.”
Not the kind of exhaustion that keeps you in bed all day.
Just a constant feeling of running on low battery.
You wake up tired.
You hit an afternoon energy crash.
You rely on caffeine to get through the day.
And by evening, you feel completely drained.
If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone.
Many women assume the answer is simple: “I must not be sleeping enough.”
Sometimes sleep is part of the picture.
But after working with women for years, I’ve learned that fatigue in midlife is often much more complex.
The Years of Pushing Through
For many women, exhaustion doesn’t appear overnight.
It builds gradually.
Years of juggling careers, raising families, caring for others, managing stress, and putting themselves last can slowly catch up with them.
I know because I’ve lived it too.
As a former corporate litigator, I spent years working long hours, staying up too late, relying on caffeine, and pushing through fatigue.
For a long time, I could get away with it.
Eventually, though, things changed.
Poor sleep affected me more.
Stress lingered longer.
Recovery took longer.
My energy became less predictable.
And I realized that the old strategy of “just keep going” wasn’t working anymore.
Fatigue After 50 Feels Different
Many women tell me they don’t feel like themselves anymore.
They feel tired even after resting.
They struggle with brain fog.
Their motivation drops.
Simple tasks feel harder than they used to.
And often, they blame themselves.
Maybe I’m not exercising enough.
Maybe I’m eating the wrong foods.
Maybe I’m just getting older.
But fatigue can have many causes, including:
- Chronic stress
- Poor sleep quality
- Blood sugar imbalances
- Hormonal changes
- Loss of muscle mass
- Overly restrictive diets
- Lack of recovery and downtime
The body isn’t designed to operate under constant stress forever.
Eventually, it asks for something different.
Your Body May Need Support, Not More Pressure
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that energy isn’t simply about motivation.
It’s about support.
Sometimes the body needs:
- More nourishment
- Better sleep
- More movement
- Less stress
- More recovery
- Greater consistency
Many women are still trying to live by the old rules:
Eat less.
Push harder.
Stay productive.
Ignore fatigue.
But eventually, the body starts pushing back.
And sometimes exhaustion isn’t weakness.
Sometimes it’s information.
A Different Way to Think About Energy
Instead of asking:
“What’s wrong with me?”
Try asking:
“What is my body trying to tell me?”
Because constantly feeling tired is not always a motivation problem.
Often, it’s a signal that your body needs a different kind of support than it did twenty years ago.
The good news is that small, sustainable changes can make a meaningful difference.
You don’t have to be perfect.
You simply need a plan that works with your body, not against it.
