AIR FRYER APPLE CHIPS
Homemade Apple Crisps are a fun, kid-friendly and healthy snack.
INGREDIENTS (2 servings)
• 1 apple
• ¼ tsp ground cinnamon
• Pinch of salt
INSTRUCTIONS
AIR FRYER VERSION:
1. Preheat the air fryer to 350 F / 180C.
2. Thinly slice the apples using either a mandolin or a sharp knife.
3. Add apples to bowl and combine with cinnamon and salt.
4. Transfer half of the spiced apple slices to the air fryer basket, arranging in a single layer.
5. Cook for 8-10 minutes, turning and flattening them at least 2 times during the cooking process.
6. Remove the cooked apples chips and then repeat with the rest of the apple slices.
OVEN VERSION:
• Preheat oven to 225 F / 110 C.
• Thinly slice the apples using either a mandolin or a sharp knife.
• Add apples to bowl and combine with cinnamon and salt.
• Arrange slices on a metal baking sheet.
• Bake for 45-60 minutes until apples are dried and edges curl up.
• Using a spatula, transfer these onto a wire rack until fully cooled and crispy.
Recipe Tips
• Using a mandolin to slice the apples works best. But if that is not an option, make sure to use a sharp knife.
• Try to make sure the apple slices are all the same thickness so they will cook at the same rate.
• If they are not all the same size, divide into batches according to thickness and cook similar size slices together.
• If some slices are cooking quicker than others, simply remove the quicker cooking ones earlier.
• Air fryer temperatures can vary depending on the make and model, so this recipe includes a range of suggested cook times.
• Cook time will also depend on the thickness of your apple slices. If they are very thin they may cook a bit quicker.
• I suggest not cutting them too thin, as they can then burn without actually crisping up.
• Note that your apple crisps may not be fully crispy when done, but don’t fret. They will crisp upon cooling.
• I like to make my apple chips crisper for snacking, but softer for topping granola.
• For a different flavour profile, follow this recipe and use pears instead of apples.
Chef’s Tip: You will have to turn and flatten the apple slices about 2-3 times during cooking, as they move about and may end up touching the top of the air fryer and burning.
